Papi shutting was a proper gut punch, but Matthew Scott and Charlie Carr have turned the old Leconfield on Green Lanes into something better. Drinkers and snackers up front, a dining room with skylights and tablecloths at the back. The food's grown up without losing any flavour, big on British ingredients, and Charlie's wine list is 80% English and low-intervention. Reckon on £50 a head before drinks, and the soundtrack never strays outside 1983 to 1986. They call it a pub. It isn't. Top tip: dinner is Wednesday to Saturday only, so book. Bar Etna round the corner does a £5 negroni after.
