Canteen

Canteen is the sort of Notting Hill gaff that’s all counter seats, open fire and people pretending they didn’t come for the chocolate mousse. We did, obviously. The room feels relaxed but buzzy, the menu changes often and isn’t online, and there’s no booking, so you’re basically gambling on what’s left when you walk in. Not ideal. Still, when the food lands, it lands. The dessert that’s doing the rounds is thick, glossy and finished with olive oil and sea salt. It’s worth the hype. Top tip: turn up at opening time if you want any chance of getting in quickly.
